You have received notice that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is going to apply a wage garnishment to your paycheck. What exactly does that mean? Well, it means that the CRA is going to notify your employer that you have a back tax debt. Your employer will be required – by law – to send up to 100% of your earnings directly to the CRA until such time as the tax debt is paid in full. Not responding to the CRA enables them to do this without your consent.
AÂ Canada Revenue Agency dispute can quickly escalate and become quite serious. MK & Associates, firmly believes that no tax payer should attempt to resolve CRA disputes alone. MK & Associates will negotiate with the CRA on your behalf to get the garnishment reduced or removed entirely.
Depending upon your individual circumstances, an installment agreement can also be arranged with the CRA. Once this is in place, MK & Associates may then be able to negotiate interest and penalty relief.
Don’t underestimate the frequency with which the CRA implements this tactic for tax collection. The CRA literally issues thousands of wage garnishments upon good, hard working Canadians each year!
